The Hackensaw Boys
By GRN | November 18, 2008
Reclaiming Americana for folks who hail from “real America,” Charlottesville, Virginia collective the Hackensaw Boys reinvent bluegrass, infusing traditional Appalachia tropes with a punk-rock edge. The band’s raucous, liquor-fueled interpretations have earned them opening slots alongside acts as diverse as Camper Van Beethoven, the Flaming Lips, and Modest Mouse. The latter liked the band so much that it recruited Hackensaw Boys founding member Tom Peloso in 2007. Peloso contributed two songs to the Hackensaw Boys’ latest album and continues to perform on occasion, further bolstering their indie and country cred.
