Tuesday, November 18th, 2008Zero Film Festival
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008In a city where big budgets are often confused with big ideas, the first annual Zero Film Festival reminds us that self-financed filmmaking can be infinitely more expressive. Screening in warehouses and other alternative venues across Downtown, the week-long celebration of cinematic subversion showcases international films, along with live music by local LA artists. What unfolds is not a mere film festival, but a full-scale party praising free-thinking filmmakers.

William Hundley: Draco
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008Austin-based photographer William Hundley’s work intervenes in reality, harnessing his inner trickster with the yoke of labor-intensive post-production. His staged and manipulated street scenes generate ghostly, floating forms using a mysterious digital alchemy that incorporates straight photography, props, and models. While they do distort the truth, Hundley’s fun-house scenarios are more than mere tricks: they gently erode assumptions about how much to trust what we see.
